The government is working to improve UK cyber defences, promote growth in the UK cyber security industry and ensure new and existing technologies are safely developed and deployed across the country. As part of this work the government is supporting the Northern Ireland Cyber AI Hub to develop research, skills and innovation across a range of cyber security themes and develop a skills pipeline of cyber security professionals with strong industry links.

This evaluation reports on the progress of the Cyber-AI Hub Programme, which is being delivered in Northern Ireland by Queen’s University Belfast between 2023 and 2027.

The evaluation covers the four components of the programme:

  • the Cyber-AI Technologies Hub
  • the Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) Doctoral Training Programme
  • the NICYBER2025 Masters Bursaries, and
  • the Northern Ireland Cyber Security Snapshot

It assesses how these components are performing over the period of programme delivery.

The evaluation has been carried out by Steer Economic Development (Steer-ED).
