Details

The Chancellor formally sought the advice of the Governor of the Bank of England on 10 June 2015 regarding the government’s shareholdings in the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). The Governor replied to the Chancellor on 10 June 2015, setting out the bank’s conclusions on the best means forward for the taxpayers.

The Chancellor also commissioned N M Rothschild to undertake an independent review to provide advice on how best to return the Royal Bank of Scotland to private hands, in order to maximise value for the taxpayer.
