New regulations apply to all UK organisations that import or supply packaging. The regulations mean that these organisations may be responsible for the costs of dealing with packaging waste. This is called extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging.

This document gives updated illustrative base fees for year 1 of EPR for packaging. It gives a fee range for each category of waste packaging material and explains how the ranges were calculated.

Defra published the first estimate of illustrative base fees for year 1 of EPR in August 2024.
