The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (the department) received the following request for information which we responded to under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA):
Please provide me with the following information: The number of personal or executive assistants in the department. Of this, the number of personal or executive assistants to 1 individual, 2 individuals and 3 or more individuals. Please provide me with information for the financial year 2023/24.
Our response
The Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (the department) does not hold this information centrally. This is because position titles (such as personal assistant and executive assistant) and role descriptions (for instance, how many senior civil servants a personal assistant supports) are not recorded on our HR system. We cannot aggregate this information into a summary data set for you because the department does not hold the disaggregated information in a reportable format. Therefore, the department is unable to disclose the requested information.
