Laboratory support service
The SCT programme funds a support service via Oxford University Hospitals for all professionals working in the antenatal and newborn screening programmes.
There is a designated telephone helpline and secure email address for questions about screening policy and haemoglobinopathy results.

e-learning resource
The SCT screening e-learning resource has 9 units. Each unit can be completed independently. There is an optional quiz to test knowledge, with a certificate issued on satisfactory completion.

External training courses and resources
Kings College London offers the following 3 courses:
- genetic risk assessment – a 4-day course for health professionals involved in counselling women and couples ‘at risk’ of having a child with a haemoglobinopathy
- specialist counsellors update – a one-day update for practitioners who have previously undertaken a specialist course
- SCT programme update – a one-day update for non- specialist nurses, midwives and health visitors so they can develop an understanding of the antenatal and newborn SCT screening programme in England
