Details

On 31 July 2024, Natural England submitted a report to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs setting out the proposals for improved access to the coast between Rye Harbour and Camber Sands (EBC 8). This is a section of the Eastbourne to Camber (EBC) stretch.

Natural England’s original proposals for this length did not include a route connecting Rye Harbour and Camber due to a road safety issue near Brede Sluice, Rye. Fresh analysis, in liaison with National Highways, concluded that with suitable design improvements, this safety issue could be overcome.

The original proposals were removed under modification report MR1. This allowed Natural England to conduct a fresh alignment exercise to assess the feasibility of a continuous route around the Rother Estuary. This report contains Natural England’s new proposals for this section.

The opportunity to comment closes at midnight on Wednesday 25 September 2024.

All representations and objections will be considered before the Secretary of State makes a final decision about the report.

The report is available as a series of separate documents. You should:

  • read the overview which includes background information to help you understand the proposals and maps
  • use the index map to find the relevant chapter for the length of coast you are interested in
  • open the corresponding chapter of the report for more information
