As part of the proposed action the government will take to protect future generations from the harms of smoking, the government is investing an additional £70 million per year to support local authority-led stop smoking services (SSS).

In allocating this funding, we have based the proposed funding uplift for each area on the number of smokers in each local authority. Therefore, this additional funding will target local authorities with the highest smoking rates.

‘Annex 1 - modelling assumptions’ is published with the command paper, Stopping the start: our new plan to create a smokefree generation.
