Details

In 2003 Government set up CoRWM to consider how to manage the UK’s higher activity radioactive waste in the long term, protecting people and the environment.

In July 2006 CoRWM reported to Government recommending:

  • Geological disposal is the best available long term solution
  • Safe and secure interim storage is needed in the meantime
  • Further research & development is needed

Government later accepted these recommendations leading to a White Paper, published in 2008 on Managing Radioactive Waste Safely.
