As part of the National Cyber Strategy the government is working to enhance and expand the nation’s cyber skills at every level in order to protect the UK online.
There is a clear need for a larger proportion of the population to have sufficient cyber security skills. The government wants to ensure there are initiatives and educational opportunities available to make young people aware of cyber security and inspire their engagement with it. However, there is currently no accurate picture of what programmes exist. This research maps informal cyber security-related initiatives aimed at children and young people aged 5-19. This study includes desk research, expert interviews and interviews with end users, plus a survey of parents and young people setting out their perceptions of working in cyber security.
