MGN 416 (M) Amendment 1: Small commercial vessels operating in foreign waters

This notice provides guidance to all who have an interest in small commercial vessels including rescue boats with an intention to operate abroad in non-UK waters.

This notice is of interest to Owners, Operators, Masters and crew of United Kingdom Small Commercial Vessels intending to operate abroad, and to all Certifying Authorities. 

This notice replaces MGN 416 (M) first published in June 2010.

This notice should be read in conjunction with existing UK domestic Codes of Practices:

  • The Code of Practice for the Safety of Small Vessels in Commercial Use for Sport or Pleasure Operating from a Nominated Departure Point (NDP); 

  • The Safety of Small Commercial Motor Vessels - A Code of Practice;

  • The Safety of Small Commercial Sailing Vessels - A Code of Practice;

  • The Code of Practice for the Safety of Small Workboats and Pilot Boats; 

  • The equivalent provisions provided by the Annex to MGN 280 (M) - Small Vessels in Commercial Use for Sport or Pleasure, Workboats and Pilot Boats - Alternative Construction Standards;

  • The Rescue Boat Code (The Code of Practice for Open Rescue Boats of Less Than 15 Metres in Length);

  • The High Speed Offshore Service Craft Code (HSOSC);

  • The Workboat Code Edition 2 – Amendment 1; The Safety of Small Workboats and Pilot Boats – A Code of Practice, and

  • The Workboat Code Edition 3 – The Safety of Small Workboats and Pilot Boats – A Code of Practice.
