Update on the motorcycle test review

Details

Study looking into the possibility of introducing a single-event practical motorcycle test and the problems associated with this approach.

The studies were completed in 3 phases with different test conditions for each phase, phase:

  • 1 involved testing the manoeuvres with off-road locations ‘mocked-up’ to resemble real roads
  • 2 completing the manoeuvres with experienced riders
  • 3 using test ready learners

The attached interim report on the review, stating the progress made, was released in November 2012.

In June 2010, the Road Safety Minister announced a review of the practical motorcycle test, with the aim of devising a single-event test that is carried out on the road as far as possible.
