Details

This report is about our regulation of national assessments (sometimes known as SATs) in 2018.

We have continued to take a risk-based approach, maintaining our focus on key aspects of validity and the highest-stakes assessments, in particular those at key stage 2 which inform both attainment and progress measures for schools.

The report describes how we are meeting commitments made in our corporate plan for 2017/18 to monitor key aspects of assessment validity and reports on additional work, such as our review relating to preventing malpractice and the revision of our regulatory framework.

It also sets out some early findings into research we have begun on international approaches to the assessment of writing at the end of the primary phase.
