This report sets out the activities of the National DNA Database (NDNAD) from 2015 to 2016.

It provides:

• statistics on the National DNA Database including match rate, ethnicity, age and sex of those on the database
• technological advances over the period
• a summary of the retention framework for DNA and fingerprints set out under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012)
• a summary of the record deletion process for requesting early deletion
