New York joint statement on the security and resilience of undersea cables

The UK have joined the EU and 15 other partners in endorsing shared principles on security and resilience of subsea cables at the UN General Assembly.

Details

At the 79th annual United Nations General Assembly in New York, the UK endorsed the New York Joint Statement on the security and resilience of undersea cables in a globally digitalized world (the New York Statement) on 26 September 2024.

The New York Statement sets out clear proposals on working individually and together to ensure the security of this infrastructure.

It was proposed by the US and endorsed by the UK, EU and 14 UN member states, including:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • the Federated States of Micronesia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Japan
  • the Marshall Islands
  • the Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Portugal
  • Republic of Korea
  • Singapore
  • Tonga
  • Tuvalu

The New York Statement sets out clear proposals on working individually and together to ensure the security of this infrastructure.
