Before filling in the relevant objection forms, you must read the guidance on how to object to a UK GI scheme application to add, change or cancel a geographical food or drink name and send in your forms by the required deadlines for each UK GI scheme.
Download and save the relevant forms to your desktop to fill in electronically. Remember to save it after you’ve filled it in.
You must sign and date your forms. An electronic signature is acceptable.
Give notice of your objection
You must send in the relevant form to give notice of your objection to add or change a product specification within the specified deadline for a:
- protected food name
- spirit drinks name
This stage does not apply to wine or aromatised wine names.
Make a statement of your objection
Within the specified deadline, you must complete a reasoned statement which provides evidence for your objection. This stage applies to all UK GI schemes.
Email your objection forms
Email the relevant objection forms to the UK GI application address within the required deadlines. Add the UK GI scheme name to the subject field of your email. For example:
- ‘Protected food names scheme: objection’
- ‘Protected wine names scheme: objection’
- ‘Protected spirit drink names scheme: objection’
