OCSS funding award: update 5 December 2023
Updated 5 December 2023
The Offshore Coordination Support Scheme (OCSS) was designed to:
- encourage advanced offshore energy projects to develop coordinated options for offshore transmission
- learn lessons to inform future projects
We are pleased to announce that a consortium of North Falls, Five Estuaries and Sea Link has been successful in receiving grant funding. The project will receive an initial sum of up to £1.7 million funding, with potential for up to £11.7 million of further funding in financial year 2024/2025. This consortium will use funding from the OCSS to explore coordination between 2 offshore wind farms and a bootstrap reinforcement to the GB grid. If the coordinated design is taken forward by developers, this project will be the first of its kind in the UK.
This project will produce key lessons learnt on the practicalities of coordinating transmission infrastructure, which can be shared across the sector and be used for future policy work. These lessons will enable us to further understand how to deploy renewables while minimising the impact on communities.
