This MoU between the government and the 4 UK Mobile Network Operators confirms industry support of the Open RAN principles. This includes reaffirming the UK’s shared ambition for 35% of network traffic, in aggregate, to take place over open and interoperable systems by 2030.
The MoU also sets out the initiatives that all parties – government and industry – can take to guide our shared efforts in fostering a more diverse and resilient supply chain.
Published in April 2022, the Open RAN principles are foundational to government’s approach to the development of open and interoperable RAN solutions, while providing clarity on the characteristics that Open RAN should possess in order to fulfil its potential.
