The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is part of the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy and exercises the powers of the Secretary of State in relation to a range of regulations. Our approach to addressing non-compliance by those we regulate, and potential product safety risks, is set out in our Enforcement Policy, which also sets out our approach to publishing details of our enforcement actions. Where enforcement action is taken in relation to an individual, details of that individual are anonymised for publication.
The enforcement actions listed below were taken by OPSS in the 6-month period between 1 April 2022 and 30 September 2022. Actions are grouped under the following headings: Product Safety, and Timber.
Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points)

Product Safety – September 2022
Business: GLEN DIMPLEX HOME APPLIANCES LIMITED
Action taken:
Withdrawal Notice issued on 5 September 2022 under Regulation 5(4) and Schedule 4, para 2 of the Gas Appliances (Enforcement) and Miscellaneous Amendments Regulations 2018.
Product:
Certain Belling, Stoves and New World gas range cookers with gas grill.
Models affected by the Withdrawal Notice include 110cm, 100cm and 90cm models, and were purchased at any time between 2010 and 2022.

Detail:
The product presents a serious risk to health and death due to carbon monoxide poisoning. If used with the grill door closed, the product can cause extremely dangerous levels of carbon monoxide to be produced.
The manufacturer removed products within scope of the Withdrawal Notice from sale and launched a modification programme for products that had previously been sold.

Detail:
Fitzpatrick Fuels Limited, as an operator, failed to identify species, concession of harvest and legality of harvest. The business failed to reduce to negligible the risk of illegally harvested timber entering the supply chain.
