Details

Vets and private laboratories must use these forms to:

  • report suspected salmonella in poultry and gamebirds
  • submit suspected salmonella isolates from poultry and gamebirds for confirmatory identification

You must complete and submit both forms.

These forms should only be used for the submission of suspected salmonella isolates.

You must report suspected salmonella in the following species:

  • chickens
  • ducks
  • geese
  • guinea fowl
  • partridges
  • pigeons
  • quails
  • turkeys

You are legally required to:

  • report the isolation of the organism to APHA
  • provide a culture of the organism to APHA for confirmatory identification
  • provide all the information requested in the form

Testing is carried out by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) Salmonella National Reference Laboratory.

Costs and turnaround times

There is no charge for statutory testing.

Results are returned within a maximum of 12 working days.

Test reports are emailed to the submitting laboratory.
