Details

This prison service instruction (PSI) contains guidelines for prisons on setting up and managing a retail service for prisoners to order essential goods. It describes how the products should be chosen to meet the diverse needs of the local population, be priced fairly, and managed securely.

It covers:

  • selecting products from the national product list
  • maintaining security
  • day-to-day running of the retail service
  • running retail workshops for packing and distribution of orders
  • supply and delivery of orders

This is a current PSI. It came into effect on 1 August 2013 and was last updated on 27 January 2020.
