Quarterly qualifying defence contract statistics: Q3 2019/20
The Single Source Regulations Office has released its latest quarterly publication on key statistics relating to qualifying defence contracts (QDCs) and qualifying sub-contracts (QSCs).

This bulletin is part of a regular published series of statistical reports, containing analysis of key QDC/QSC information. Analysis of all contracts that became a QDC/QSC between 1 April 2015 and 31 December 2019 is included.
The SSRO was notified of 270 contracts that became QDCs/QSCs by 31 December 2019. Contractors have one month after the date the contract becomes a QDC/QSC to submit reports, and as of 31 January 2020 the SSRO had received contract reports for 252 contracts that became QDCs/QSCs between 1 April 2015 and 31 December 2019, which the analysis is based on. This comprised 213 QDCs and 39 QSCs.
In the first nine months of 2019/20, the SSRO has received contract reports for 44 new QDCs/QSCs, with an estimated total contract price of £7.2 billion. The estimated total contract price of all 252 QDCs/QSCs was £38.8 billion. The average reported estimated contract profit rate across all QDCs/QSCs was 9.48 per cent.
Following discussions with stakeholders, the SSRO would like to make users aware that the next bulletin, the 2019/20 Annual Statistics bulletin, will contain two new statistics looking at the number of contracts that have now completed. The first statistic will show number of contracts completing in each financial year, alongside the existing statistic showing the number of contracts being entered into in each financial year, with the net of these two being the current number of ‘active’ contracts. The second statistic will show the ‘status’ of a contract (active or completed), by financial year in which the contract was entered into. This will be published in June 2020. The SSRO will review whether additional statistics on completed contracts can be provided in future, as more Contract Completion Reports are submitted.
All data is based on the latest submitted report for each QDC/QSC, to reflect the most recently reported contract data, and may not reflect values at contract completion.
