This research aimed to create a robust passenger evidence base to inform decisions about the delivery of future infrastructure works.

It looked at passenger preferences and ranges of tolerance for different models of service alteration, blockade durations, disruption patterns and travel alternatives.

It aimed to inform the development of communications with passengers about service alterations ahead of and during infrastructure works.

The Department for Transport commissioned Ipsos to conduct this quantitative research project. It consisted of an online survey, collecting responses from 3,000 rail users (aged 16 to 75) in Great Britain. The fieldwork took place between 11 and 23 August 2021.
