- report suspected salmonella in animals, including farmed mammals and horses
- submit suspected salmonella isolates from animals for confirmatory identification

Statutory reporting of salmonella
You are legally required to report suspected salmonella in farmed mammals including:
- cattle
- pigs
- sheep
- goats
- horses
- deer
- rabbits
You must:
- report the isolation of the organism to APHA
- provide a culture of the organism to APHA for confirmatory identification
- provide all the information requested in the form
This form should only be used for the submission of suspected salmonella isolates.
Voluntary reporting of salmonella
You can also use this form to voluntarily report salmonella in any other species, including zoo animals and reptiles.
Testing is carried out by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) Salmonella National Reference Laboratory.
Costs and turnaround times
There is no charge for statutory testing.
Results are returned within a maximum of 12 working days.
Test reports are emailed to the submitting laboratory.

Submitting samples
You must complete the form in full. Specific statutory information is required with all isolate submissions.
If you are submitting samples from farm animals, you must also include the relevant species diagnostic testing form:
- cattle
- pigs
- sheep and goats
- poultry and gamebirds
- other farmed mammals, for example, rabbits, deer, alpacas and llamas
