Details
This Probation Instruction sets out the application process for conducting research across HMPPS and community-based/custodial providers, outlining the key approval criteria/considerations and the information that must be provided to the National Research mailbox.
It excludes research in Secure Training Centres, Secure Children’s Homes or with Youth Offending Teams – applications to conduct research in these excluded areas should be directed to the relevant establishments/teams and approval sought directly from these services (the Youth Justice Board does not provide approval for external research).
Research commissioned by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is also excluded – this research will go through separate MoJ quality assurance processes (research@justice.gsi.gov.uk). Depending on the subject area of the research, contact may also need to be made with other Government Departments, e.g. the Home Office.
