Research, development and innovation (RDI) organisational landscape review: privacy notice relating to the invitation for views

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) has issued an ‘invitation for views’, to seek further stakeholder input for the independent Review of the research, development and innovation (RDI) organisational landscape. You can respond by email.

This privacy notice sets out:

  • how we process your personal data when you respond to the invitation for views
  • the rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR)

Purpose

We collect your personal data as part of the invitation for views process so that we can contact you regarding your response or related matters.

DSIT may wish to publish parts, or all, of the content in responses submitted via this process, and will notify organisations if this is the case, but will exclude any personal data.

The data we collect

We collect and process the following personal data:

  • your name
  • your email address
  • any personal data you volunteer by way of evidence or example in your response to the invitation for views

The legal basis for processing your personal data is to perform a task carried out in the public interest. We are seeking stakeholders’ views on the research, development and innovation organisational landscape, to inform the findings and recommendations for the Review.

Why we need it

We collect your name and email address so that we:

  • know you’re a real person
  • can respond to your comments

What we do with your data

DSIT may wish to publish parts, or all, of the content in responses submitted via this process, and will notify organisations if this is the case, but will exclude any personal data.

We will not:

  • sell or rent your data to third parties
  • share your data with third parties for marketing purposes

We will share your data if we are required to do so by law, for example by court order, or to prevent fraud or other crime.

How long we keep your data

We will only retain your personal data for as long as:

  • it is needed for the purposes of the RDI Landscape Review (which will conclude in Summer 2022)
  • the law requires us to

In general, this means that we will only hold your personal data for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 7 years.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • request information about how your personal data are processed, and to request a copy of that personal data.
  • request that any inaccuracies in your personal data are rectified without delay.
  • request that any incomplete personal data are completed, including by means of a supplementary statement.
  • request that your personal data are erased if there is no longer a justification for them to be processed.
  • in certain circumstances (for example, where accuracy is contested) request that the processing of your personal data is restricted.
  • object to the processing of your personal data where it is processed for direct marketing purposes.
  • object to the processing of your personal data.

Complaints

If you consider that your personal data has been misused or mishandled, you may make a complaint to the Information Commissioner, who is an UK independent regulator. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
