As part of the £2.6 billion National Cyber Strategy the government is working to improve cyber resilience across the UK economy. This includes securing our essential and digital services against cyber threats and ensuring organisations have the tools and support to prevent cyber attacks.

Managed service providers (or “MSPs”) are organisations which provide IT services to many different businesses and organisations across the economy. MSPs play a critical role in the UK digital economy and millions of businesses rely on them on a daily basis.

This research report carried out by Perspective Economics sets out the characteristics of the UK MSP market, including its size, value, range of services provided and number of people employed. The research shows how the sector makes a significant economic and practical contribution to the UK economy:

  • There are an estimated 11,492 active MSPs
  • The MSP sector generates annual revenue of around £52.6 billion, including £29.1 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA)
  • The sector employs an estimated 294,340 people.

The research informs the government’s policy work to continue to improve UK cyber resilience and protect the UK economy online.
