Details

This prison service instruction (PSI) details the facilities, services and support that prisons should provide to prisoners as part of their daily routine, including:

  • cell furnishings, fittings and equipment
  • clothing, bedding and footwear
  • toiletries, bathrooms and laundry
  • time outside
  • meal times
  • social care, including building positive staff-prisoner relationships and good behaviour
  • care for prisoners at risk of suicide and self-harm
  • access to computer facilities for legal reasons

It also details specific support for prisoners with disabilities, elderly prisoners, ethic minority prisoners and other specific groups.

This is a current PSI. It came into effect on 1 January 2012 and was last updated on 27 January 2020.
