This revised direction requires the council to continue taking steps to improve its children’s social care services. This includes co-operating with the Department for Education’s appointed commissioner.
This direction follows an independent report by the Commissioner for Children’s Services in Surrey published on 31 October 2018. The report recommended that the council should retain the operational control of its children’s services.
The Department for Education appointed the commissioner following a report by Ofsted that judged the overall effectiveness of Surrey’s children’s social care services to be inadequate.
