A Review on the Risks and Psychological Harms Presented by Consumer IoT Products

Details

The government is working to increase the cyber security of consumer connectable products sold in the UK. Also known as ‘IoT’ (internet of things) devices, these products include devices like smart TVs, home security cameras and other internet-connected household appliances.

This research is a review of academic literature to understand the risks presented by internet connectable consumer products and the psychological harm that may be suffered by consumers who have had their IoT products exploited, the impact to the wider network, and how this can feed into enforcement strategy.

This research was carried out for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology by Dr Mark Cote, Dr William Seymour, Dr Jennifer Pybus, and Dalia Mariasin.
