The guidance provides an overview of:

  • what School Streets are
  • the key steps and factors to consider when developing and implementing schemes
  • how School Streets fit within the wider context of enabling walking, wheeling and cycling to school

It is aimed at local authorities in England, particularly authorities with limited experience of delivering School Streets. It may also be of interest to schools and local elected members.

It has been developed by the Department for Transport and Active Travel England and is supported by the Department for Education and the Department of Health and Social Care.
