Details

This is the fifth edition of the NHS sickle cell and thalassaemia (SCT) screening programme handbook for laboratories involved in newborn screening.

This handbook is for staff working in newborn screening laboratories. It brings together in one publication the national guidelines, recommendations, standards and specifications for the NHS SCT screening programme that relate to the work performed by screening laboratories.

The final attachment in this handbook, the Tandem Mass Spectrometry for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Newborn Screening Pilot Study, was published by Public Health England in 2015 before the public health system reforms into the current structures.

See SCT screening: handbook for antenatal laboratories for policy and standards for SCT screening antenatal laboratories.
