Details

The requirement to install metering equipment in Great Britain which complies with these Smart Metering Equipment Technical Specifications (SMETS) arises from standard licence conditions 39 and 40 in electricity supply licences and standard conditions 33 and 34 in gas supply licences.

These SMETS were amended and restated by the Secretary of State on 31 March 2014; the amended version replaces the version of that document designated on 18 December 2012. The amendments clarify a small number of requirements following consultation. The government response to the regulatory arrangements for enrolment and adoption of Foundation Meters consultation explains these amendments. The original version of these specifications is also available on request. Any enquiries regarding this publication should be sent to us at smartmetering@decc.gsi.gov.uk
