Solid wall heat losses and the potential for energy saving
This project looks at the performance of solid walls, energy savings from solid wall insulation and improvements to its installation.

Details
A major project was commissioned by the Department for Energy and Climate Change in 2013 to improve our understanding of energy savings from solid wall insulation and identify possible improvements to its installation. The final reports include:
- a literature review
- field investigations
- a solid wall classification scheme
- a competition for an improved device to measure heat conductivity
- investigation of the gap between calculated and actual energy savings from solid wall insulation
- an in-situ approach to measure wall conductivity
- recommendations to improve the installation process for solid wall insulation
