SPI-M-O consensus statement on events and gatherings during COVID-19. It was considered at SAGE 52 on 20 August 2020.
This paper contains a qualitative categorisation of risk for various categories of events. Please note that by its nature, this is a subjective assessment to some extent. The table is non-exhaustive and there will be variation of risk within each event type.
This should not be interpreted as a quantitative risk assessment, and should be considered alongside behavioural and environmental advice from the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviours (SPI-B) and the Environmental Modelling Group (EMG), as well as more specific risk analyses for individual large-scale events and activities.
It should be viewed in context: the paper was the best assessment of the evidence at the time of writing. The picture is developing rapidly and, as new evidence or data emerges, SAGE updates its advice accordingly.
Therefore, some of the information in this paper may have been superseded and the author’s opinion or conclusion may since have developed.
