Details
On 23 March 2021, Cornwall Council (“the applicant”) made a formal application to the Marine Management Organisation (“MMO”) under Section 14 of the Harbours Act 1964 for the St Ives (G7 Summit 2021) Harbour Revision Order 2021 (“the HRO”).
The 47th G7 Summit will be held at the Carbis Bay Hotel, near Hayle, Cornwall, with the event itself due to take place from 11 to 13 June 2021. The G7 is a forum where world leaders come together to discuss global matters. It is made up of the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the USA with the EU participating in discussions as a guest. Leaders from Australia, India and South Korea have also been invited to attend the 47th G7 Summit as guest countries.
The HRO grants the applicant a temporary extension to the harbour limits of St Ives harbour to cover the whole of St Ives Bay (excluding Hayle Harbour’s jurisdiction), and grants the applicant with powers of general direction for the duration of the G7 period (7 June 2021 until 15 June 2021).
The HRO also contains a saving provision allowing any proceedings started under the temporary powers to continue after the temporary powers cease to have effect.
More information about the proposals can be viewed in the Statement in Support, the HRO and the deposited plan, above on this page.
The MMO approved the making of the Order on 11 May 2021, details of the decision-making process can be viewed in St Ives (G7 Summit 2021) Harbour Revision Order decision document.
The Order will be laid before parliament on 14 May 2021 and will come into force on 7 June 2021.
