Joint communiqué on international support for the Government of Yemen

The Government of Yemen and the United Kingdom co-hosted a meeting on Monday 20 January 2025, with representatives from Algeria, Austria, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, European Union, France, Greece, Ireland, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Panama, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, The Republic of Korea, Türkiye, United Arab Emirates, and United States to discuss the support of regional and international partners for the Government of Yemen’s Vision for Economic Recovery and Partnership, and the priorities for 2025 to 2026.
Following Prime Minister Ahmed BinMubarak’s presentation of the Government of Yemen’s unified Vision and priorities, international partners acknowledged that the stability of Yemen, and regional security, including maritime security, can only be achieved through a stable and effective government that is accountable to the people of Yemen.
The international partners recognised the significant economic, humanitarian and security challenges facing Yemen, reaffirming their firm commitment to the Government of Yemen and to sustainable peace and stability in Yemen. They welcomed the continuing commitment of the Government to restoring national stability and prioritizing the well-being of the people of Yemen, and the Government’s continuing commitment to the principles of democracy, human rights, social justice, good governance, and equal citizenship. The international partners acknowledged the Government’s commendable progress in re-establishing government institutions in Aden.
The international partners welcomed the Government’s Vision and priorities, and its approach to economic, financial and institutional reforms including combating corruption, acknowledging the efforts of President Al-Alimi, the members of the Presidential Leadership Council, the Prime Minister, and the Cabinet, and underlining their full support for the Government’s urgent reform priorities as well as the longer-term Vision for Economic Recovery and Stabilization.
They emphasised the importance of the unity and cohesion of the Government, as well as its full exercise of authority on the ground and welcomed the Government’s commitment to transparent, inclusive, and accountable governance.
The international partners pledged their commitment to collaboration with the Government, and political, financial and technical support to the Government of Yemen, to support the delivery of the Government’s Vision and priorities to improve the living conditions of all Yemenis.
The international partners noted, while emphasizing that 19.5 million people in Yemen need humanitarian assistance, the Government’s call, after more than a decade of conflict, for a more balanced approach across the Humanitarian, Development, and Peace nexus, and a transition towards sustainable development support.
All acknowledged that a stronger partnership between the Government of Yemen and international partners is essential for a more stable and prosperous Yemen.
