Details

The impact assessment (IA) to which this opinion relates, seeks to introduce measures which will set minimum mandatory requirements for all new private Charging Points (CPs) for electric vehicles (EVs) sold in Great Britain. The aim is to ensure those sold are ‘smart’ and provide greater security and stability for the sector.

The RPC is pleased that its advice has contributed to the improvement of the analysis supporting regulatory policy in this area. We commend for utilising evidence from the earlier consultation and from on-going engagement with industry bodies and the CP market. However, the IA would be improved through the inclusion of more evidence highlighting the different approaches taken in producing CPs and whether there is ability for those who currently produce non-smart CPs to easily retrofit their production capability to match those producing smart CPs.
