In April 2013, Action Fraud became the national centre for reporting and recording fraud and cyber crime, however concern arose about the extent of attrition in these reports, and the low outcome rates police were reporting for such crimes.
This report outlines findings from a research study looking at the level of attrition in fraud and cyber crime cases reported to Action Fraud, analysed by the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau and subsequently disseminated to the police. The report summarises the range of reasons and drivers contributing to attrition, and identifies potential improvements in the reporting and recording process.
