Details
This Statutory Instrument amends the Weights and Measures (Intoxicating Liquor) Order 1988, which regulates the specified quantities of alcohol that are permitted for sale.
At present, the specified quantities for prepacked still and sparkling wine are different. This update will align some existing prepacked wine sizes so that both still and sparkling can be sold in 500ml and 200ml sizes as well as a new 568ml quantity.
Still and sparkling wine packaged in accordance with these new regulatory requirements will be able to be sold by retailers in Northern Ireland when moved under the Northern Ireland Retail Movement Scheme.
The introduction of new wine measures and sizes provides new flexibility for businesses and consumers. The changes are optional, and so businesses and suppliers can sell in the new sizes if they choose to.
Wine sold by the glass in pubs and restaurants is not affected by this new legislation.
