Today (8 June 2023), the UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology Rt Hon Chloe Smith MP and US Commerce Secretary Gina M. Raimondo issued this joint statement welcoming the announcement by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and President Joseph R. Biden, who have committed in principle to establish a UK-US data bridge.

This marks the UK’s intention to establish a data bridge for the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, subject to finalising the UK’s assessment of US data protection laws and practices. This would allow for the free flow of personal data between the UK and certified organisations in the US, which will promote the trustworthy use and exchange of data between the 2 countries.
