Details

The WHP is an employment support programme for disabled people, the long-term unemployed and certain other priority groups.

Research background

The research was commissioned to:

• help understand how the WHP has been designed and delivered, including new features of the WHP not used in other employment support programmes
• develop a picture of the type of support participants receive
• provide evidence on employment and health outcomes, including rich, contextual data on how the programme operated to help people towards and into work, and differences between subgroups of interest

The report comprises evidence from:

• quantitative surveys with WHP participants
• qualitative research with WHP participants, providers, stakeholders, and Jobcentre staff
• quantitative research with WHP providers

Research value

Evidence from this research is being used to help inform the design of employment support for disabled people. It has also informed approaches to working with partner organisations in the design and delivery of contracted provision.

   Various corrections made to the Work and Health Programme evaluation: synthesis report. These include: Executive summary, first paragraph - 'As of May 2023, 410,000', Section 1.1.3 (all figures in first paragraph), Section 2.2.2, heading 'Referral volumes from the start of the pandemic onwards', 4th bullet - LTU referrals accounted for 18%.
