Child health profiles 2024

Details

This release includes the annual update for indicators relating to:

  • children in care and children in care immunisations
  • hospital admissions for asthma (under 19 years), substance misuse, self-harm (various age groups) and mental health conditions
  • teenage mothers
  • educational outcomes at 16 years (average attainment 8 score)
  • Accident and Emergency attendances (0 to 4 years)
  • school pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs
  • children killed or injured on the roads (various age groups)

Indicators have only been updated in OHID’s interactive Fingertips tool. The snapshot reports for local authorities have not been updated.

Three indicators are being discontinued as part of this update:

  • looked after children aged under 5: Rate per 10,000 population aged under 5
  • looked after children aged 10 to 15
  • children on child protection plans: Rate per 10,000 children under 18

Age breakdowns have been introduced for the children in care indicator, so the two separate looked after children indicators are no longer required. Feedback has indicated that indicators about children in care (looked-after children) were more important to users than those about children with child protection plans.
