Child and maternal health profiles: May 2024 update
Update of indicators related to hospital admissions for children with long-term conditions, emergency hospital admissions, A&E attendances, pregnancy and birth, and reproductive health.

The profiles give data at a local, regional and national level to inform the development and provision of:
- health improvement and prevention activities
- acute hospital services for children and families
- family planning
- antenatal and maternity care
This release updates indicators relating to:
- emergency hospital admissions for children under 18 years by different age groups
- hospital admissions for:
- gastroenteritis and respiratory tract infections for babies and young children
- asthma, diabetes and epilepsy for children and young people under 19 years by different age groups
- ectopic pregnancy and pelvic inflammatory disease
- babies aged under 14 days
- A&E attendances for different age groups
- under 18s birth rate
- ethnicity and age of mothers
- deliveries by caesarean section
Some indicators that would usually have been updated in November but were delayed because of data availability have now also been updated:
- general fertility rate
- stillbirth, neonatal and post-neonatal mortality rates
Indicators for prematurity and under 18 conceptions have not been updated because of delays in the publication of source data. Information about when these indicators will be updated instead will be published in the research and statistics calendar.
