Details
The latest national statistics on house building were released on 17 November 2011.
Statistics in this release present figures on new-build housing starts and completions in England. Figures for the UK and constituent countries are also available in the accompanying tables.
The latest statistics report on the period July to September 2011 and update those previously released on 18 August 2011.
The main points from this release are:
- seasonally adjusted house building starts stood at 23,410 in the September quarter 2011, 1% lower than in the June quarter 2011; it is 62% above the trough in the March quarter 2009, but 51% below the December quarter 2005 peak
- housing completions in England (seasonally adjusted) also decreased this quarter, down 4% from 27,330 in June quarter 2011 to 26,190 in the September quarter 2011; this compares to a 5% fall between the March 2011 and the June 2011 quarters
- annual housing starts reached 96,070 in the 12 months to September 2011, down by 7% compared with the 12 months to September 2010
- annual housing completions in England totalled 106,000 in the 12 months to September 2011, down by 2% compared with the 12 months to September 2010
