Details

• The quantity of landings (tonnes) decreased in September 2021 when compared to September 2019 and 2020 down less than 1 per cent and 9 per cent respectively. The value landed (£000’s) decreased compared to 2019 (down 10 per cent) and decreased by 1 per cent compared to September 2020.

• The cumulative landings from January to September 2021 showed a decrease of 8 per cent from the same period in 2019 but was up 15 per cent compared to 2020.

• Landings in September 2021 consist mainly of pelagic species (around 67 per cent of landings) which typically fetch a lower price than demersal and shellfish species. This is driven by increased uptake of herring – a key pelagic species – as the fishing season for this stock continues.
