The latest national statistics on planning applications were released under the auspices of the UK Statistics Authority on 17 December 2010.
In the period July to September 2010 local authorities undertaking district-level planning:
- received 126,200 applications, up by around 6% when compared with the September 2009 quarter
- decided (granted or refused) 120,200 applications, an increase of 7% when compared with the September 2009 quarter
- granted 97,100 applications, an increase of 8% when compared with the September 2009 quarter
- decided 13,500 applications for residential developments, up by 7% compared with the September 2009 quarter
- decided 1,300 major residential developments applications (10 or more dwellings), up by 8% compared with the September 2009 quarter
- decided 69% of major applications within 13 weeks
Authorities undertaking ‘county-level’ planning decided 297 applications, a decrease of 12% when compared with the same quarter a year ago.
