At the time of the publication of ‘Police use of Taser, England and Wales, 2015’, West Yorkshire police force notified the Home Office that the data they had both supplied and verified for the publication was incorrect. It was too late to incorporate the revisions in that publication and the Chief Statistician decided, in line with the departmental revisions policy, that corrections should be incorporated in the next publication.
However, the Chief Statistician has subsequently agreed with West Yorkshire police force that it would be beneficial for consistency if an indication of those revisions were placed in the public domain.
The revisions for West Yorkshire show the number of TASER stun gun uses in 2015 increased from 198 to 270. Non discharges increased from 137 to 192 and discharges increased from 61 to 78. The revisions therefore increase the overall number of Taser use across England and Wales from 10,329 to 10,401.
The full revisions for 2015 will be published as part of ‘Police use of Taser, England and Wales, 2016’ publication in 2017.
