Revisions
The security checks section contained an error in the commentary when originally published (31 July 2024). Upon investigation, updated responses were received from a small number of licensing authorities affecting the corresponding table. The following have been revised to include this newly updated data, along with a further update to include the latest local government structures and names:

Statistics on taxi and private hire vehicles (PHV) in England show that as at 1 April 2024:
- there were 313,008 licensed taxis and PHVs, an increase of 8.2% since 2023
- 82% of all licensed vehicles were PHVs
- 54% of licensed taxis were wheelchair accessible
- all taxis in London were wheelchair accessible
- 2% of PHVs were wheelchair accessible
- there were 381,092 driver licences, an increase of 10% since 2023
- 69% of licences were PHV only licences
- 9% were taxi only licences
- 20% were dual licences
