Details

This publication presents information on motor vehicles that were registered for the first time during quarter 1 (January to March) 2015.

Statistics on the total numbers of vehicles licensed as at 31 March 2015, originally scheduled as part of this release, were slightly delayed due to a data transmission problem, but the affected tables (veh0101, 0104, 0110, 0120, 0121, 0122, 0123, 0128, 0129, 0130, 0131, 0301) have all now been updated.

The statistics are derived from data held by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), which administers vehicle registration and licensing records in the United Kingdom (Great Britain prior to July 2014).

During January to March 2015:

  • 872 thousand vehicles were registered for the first time in Great Britain in quarter 1 2015 - this was 9% up on 2014, but still 3% lower than in the peak year of 2004
  • from January to March 2015, a total of 9,046 new ultra-low emission vehicles were registered for the first time (in the UK), up 366% from the same period in 2014
  • average CO2 emissions from new cars in quarter 1 2015 was 122 g/km - this fell by 3.0% compared to new cars in quarter 1 2014
