1. Introductions and objectives
The objectives of the guidance for examiners.
To be effective, the approved driving instructor examiner (ADIE) and ADI manager (ADIM) should have a clear understanding of their objectives at all times and in whatever activity they are engaged in. These objectives are:
- to improve driving instruction in the interests of road safety
- to carry out practical tests while applying DVSA standards consistently and firmly, whilst maintaining a friendly and relaxed approach
- to carry out standards check while applying DVSA standards consistently, fairly and with firmness, and giving constructive guidance in an encouraging and supportive manner
- to operate efficiently and economically, making full use of resources both at a local and national level, including online facilities
The ADIM is also responsible for the supervision and development of examiners conducting:
- ADI part 2 tests
- ADI part 3 tests
- standards checks
- official register of driving instructor training (ORDIT) assessments
They must ensure that DVSA standards are applied consistently, as per DVSA’s national standard for driver and rider training.
